Envisioning My Final Project for Contemporary Arts and Ideas Class

Art 011: Final Project
4/16/13
I am interested in pursuing an extended version of my situational library. Using all the knowledge that I’ve developed, and the feedback I received concluding the previous situational library project, I want to create multiple libraries. I’m thinking of maybe creating 3 situational libraries total, and placing them in the community as a permanent installation just like the first one. Each one will have a variety of books, not focused on one topic; I want to provide different genres to cater to different types of audiences. Over time as I observed my last project located at the Rockridge Bart, I noticed that people would leave books that were not related to the subject I had intended it to be for. I then realized that the subject I chose for the library only allowed a limited amount of people to engage with it.  I would love to get access to children’s books and adult books. I will be seeking support from the Re-Use Depot, Mills College Library, and hopefully reach out to public libraries to see if they would be interested in collaborating.
The location that I will most likely be working in is the ceramic studio, because I would need to have access to power tools. The three places that I am leaving my library at are different Bart stations. These sites would be the ones nearest to Mills, such as MacArthur Bart, Berkeley Bart, and Lake Merit Bart.  My hope is that my project would be beneficial for both me and the community.
